There can’t be many states as successful in college basketball as Kentucky on a yearly basis. Everyone knows about UK, Louisvile, and WKU, and all three are playing well this year. And then you have OVC squads doing work, NKU building a strong DI program, and a number of DIII And NAIA powerhouses. Oh, and the men’s programs throughout the state are doing pretty decent too.
Seriously, we all love the Cats and the Cards (respectively if not collectively) and I hope that one of the two finish off the season with a national title, but Kentucky is dominating the landscape of women’s college basketball at every level and that deserves some notice too.
UK, U of L, and WKU have all spent time in the upper echelons of the polls and all are in the hunt for post season glory. Campbellsville, Lindsey Wilson, Georgetown, and others are regular powerhouses at the NAIA level, and those are just to name a few. Thomas More is on a roll, Berea just played for a national title, Transy is a major player in the Heartland Conference. And the list goes on and on.
So, while we all gear up for a run at the perfect season, or hunker down to see if Ricky P. can work his magic, let’s not forget that somewhere near you (if you live in the state of Kentucky) is a women’s basketball team that could make a magical run of their own this March.
