It’s happening again, not two months removed from the original.
Lavar Ball is once again casting a pall over a kid. This time, an entire group of them–his son Lamello’s AAU team.
Tuning in for the videos, seeing all the happiness of Tweeters and Facebookers alike, I couldn’t help but thinking back to my original question back during the college season.
Are we hating on Lonzo because of his dad?
Obviously, the answer is yes, yes a million times over.
Lavar Ball ascended the national media snark mountain, on the surface anyway, as a clown. Full of braggadocio, Ball sold himself and his family as Big Ballers. Better than Jordan. “Never been defeated!”
Now, Ball continues to make enemies for people who have nothing to do with his antics.
Read the comments. Imbibe the anger. Experience the derision against an AAU team, one which never have been joked on were it not for their coach, Lavar Ball.
Even national media personalities took their shots, including normally nice Kirk Heirbstreet who tweeted that he’d like to see the team get beaten even worse than the fifty-two points they got smoked by.
In another instance, the masses who normally abhor self-congratulations and taunting were out in droves praising a kid who dunked on one of Ball’s players, then towered over him and made a spectacle of himself. Ironic, don’t ya think?
And all this misplaced anger because of Lavar Ball’s rhetoric. Let us all remember this and hopefully be a little kinder to the kids next time. Because, if there’s one thing I know with Lavar Ball, there will be a “next time.”
