I woke up this morning, threw on some old clothes, walked downstairs, poured a cup of coffee, and turned the TV to ESPN. Of course SportsCenter was on, it’s always on, and the first news story I saw was about baseball and the rites of spring? No. College basketball and the start of March Madness? No. Off season NFL news about Peyton Manning? Yes.
So, I turned the TV off and hung out with my 5 year old daughter for a while. Later, I turned the TV back on, SportsCenter again, and this time I watched…2 guys shaking hands and exchanging hugs with Adrian Peterson as a secret Paparazzi type camera filmed outside AP’s house from a far distance. Immediately after I was glued to the edge of my seat wondering whether or not Greg (or perhaps it was Frank or maybe Laurel and) Hardy was going to be reinstated to the league or not. I suppose I can only hope in the next segment to find out whether or not Tom Brady ate breakfast at his favorite hang out, a segment surely to be brought to us by expert journalist, John Clayton.
To be sure, I love football. I love high school football, college football, and the NFL. But, it is NOT football season. In fact, a competitive down has not been played in over a month. Training camp will not start for a long time. So for the love of all that is holy, enough already. Give us something that is being played right now: hockey, basketball, baseball, even golf or tennis if you have to, but please, please, please no more off-season stories about the NFL.
And by the way ESPN, if you have any news about who the Falcons may sign as their backup PK, then ignore this little rant, go ahead and run that super important story. After all Fantasy Football starts in a few months, and this year my squad is going to win it all!
